Executive summary

The hospitality sector is undergoing a digital transformation that is redefining business management and customer experience. The adoption of technological tools has allowed establishments to improve operational efficiency, optimize processes, and respond to consumer expectations, who increasingly demand more digitalization in services such as online reservations, contactless payments, and personalized attention.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the digitalization of the sector, forcing many SMEs to adopt technological solutions to remain competitive. According to a study by EY for ConectadHos (2024), 74% of hoteliers are investing in technology and 76% consider themselves to have an advanced level of digitalization, figures that have grown exponentially compared to 2021.

To begin a digitalization process, it is essential for SMEs to evaluate their current level of digitalization. This involves analyzing operational processes, technological infrastructure, competitive environment, and staff skills. It is also recommended to define clear objectives and metrics to measure the impact of digital transformation.

There are various digital tools that can improve operations and customer experience in the sector:

  1. Reservation systems: Facilitate the management of reservations in restaurants and tourist accommodations, reducing operational load. Examples: Covermanager, Restoo, Smoobu, Lodgify.

  1. Payment management: Integrating digital payment systems improves efficiency and financial control. Examples: Last.app, Camarero10.

  1. Digital menus and QR payments: Solutions like Honei and Check QR allow customers to consult menus, place orders, and pay without physical interaction.

  1. Inventory control: Tools like MarketMan and BlueCart enable efficient management of supplies, reducing waste and optimizing costs.

  1. Business analysis: Platforms like Power BI, Tableau, QuickBooks, and Xero facilitate data analysis for strategic decision-making.

  1. Employee shift management: Solutions like Deputy and When I Work optimize shift planning, improving productivity and internal communication.

Digitalization not only optimizes internal processes but also improves customer relationships:

  • Social media: Tools like Hootsuite and Buffer facilitate the management of digital presence and interaction with consumers.

  • SEO: Platforms like SEMrush and Moz help improve visibility in search engines, attracting more customers.

  • Loyalty apps: Solutions like Loyalzoo and TapMango allow the design of reward programs and effective customer retention.

Three examples demonstrate how digitalization can transform businesses in the hospitality sector:

  1. Casa Botín: The world's oldest restaurant has incorporated online reservations, social media, and digital tools to optimize its operations.

  1. Yakk and Grill: It has implemented online orders, digital menus, and QR payments to improve efficiency and customer experience.

  1. En Paella: Its integration with delivery platforms has increased its reach and profitability, adapting to new consumption forms.

Digitalization is a key factor for the competitiveness and sustainability of the hospitality sector. The adoption of digital tools not only optimizes internal management but also strengthens customer relationships and improves profitability. From reservation management to data analysis, technology has become an indispensable ally for the evolution of the sector.

To ensure success, SMEs must evaluate their current situation, select the appropriate tools, and train their team to maximize the benefits of digitalization. Digital transformation is no longer an option but a necessity to ensure growth and adaptation to new market trends.
